Lupine 'Violetta' produces blooms in a violet-toned colour palette. A rather choice variety, we discovered 'Violetta' while traveling through northern Italy to visit European flower breeders. Tall, elegant spires of lupine bring colour and structure to the garden. The densely packed blooms open from the bottom up in a stunning display. These cottage garden classics are loved by pollinators. Perfect for borders or cutting gardens, lupines add charm to the garden or vase.

Plant type: perennial

Height: 30-36”

Planting depth: 1/4"

Exposure: full sun

Plant spacing: 12-18”

Approx seeds per packet: 50

How to sow:

Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost. Harden off and transplant outdoors after last frost. Conversely, our preferred method is to direct sow mid summer. The seedlings will overwinter and bloom the following season. Do not pinch.

Care:

Seeds sown early enough will bloom first season, but plants will bloom more robustly in season two. Lupines are a short lived perennial and will need to be replanted every few years. Harvest when 75% of the blooms on a stem have opened. Vase life tends to be shorter, about 4-5 days, and so lupines should be reserved for event work where a long vase life isn't necessary, or simply grown to enjoy in the garden.
